Yes! One hundred percent yes! Student societies are a fantastic way of meeting other students with similar interests. Some of my lifelong friends I met in random societies. I even created the leprechaun society to get free food and beer!
Types of societies:
- Sporting groups.g. rugby, ultimate Frisbee, quidditch etc.
- Special interest groups.g. rubric cube society, funky hats, fire twirlers, theatre etc.
- Party groups.g. all sorts of event groups. These normally involve free food or drinks!
- Religious groups.g. bible study groups etc.
- Hobby groups.g. Warhammer, painting etc.
- Educational groups.g. Society of engineers, medical, architects etc.
Hint: There are literally hundreds of societies at each uni. Go to the open week and meet some new people!
